BGS Redress

YES Psychology & Consulting provides coordination of the Brisbane Grammar Redress Office Programs. As a primary goal for YES Psychology, the Redress service exists to enable quality support to individuals in need, in a way that minimises cost and distress.

YES Psychology Expertise and Role

  • YES Psychology are a team of Trauma specialist psychologists with extensive expertise supporting individuals who have mild through to chronic and extreme mental health conditions.
  • YES Psychology does not deliver treatment to individuals as part of the Redress process. YES Psychology facilitates engagement of individuals seeking support with appropriate practitioners and arms length payment of relevant expenses. YES Psychology has no affiliation with BGS other than acting as an independent Redress Program management service.

Independence and Confidentiality

  • As an independent organisation, YES enables individuals to discuss Redress Office support at arms length from the school. This means individuals can receive appropriate and necessary treatment without ever needing to speak with or directly engage with the School.
  • Contact with the Redress Office is independent of the School and the School does not have visibility of communications between individuals and the Redress.

The Redress Office can provide a variety of support processes for affected individuals, including:

  • Advice on how the Redress Process works and identifying the easiest pathways to psychological and financial support for each individual.
  • Advice and facilitation for individuals to locate a preferred treatment practitioner suitable to their condition. YES Psychology have strong knowledge of practitioners in the field who specialise in Redress support / sexual abuse issues. Therefore, YES can assist individuals, who do not already have a treating practitioner, to find one. All referrals provided by YES Psychology are to practitioners who are independent of YES Psychology.
  • Facilitate induction of treating practitioners into Redress Office processes. YES Psychology will liaise with the treating practitioner to explain the Redress process and purpose, how to establish that treatment is relevant to the Redress, and set up of treatment payment processes.
  • Provide education around other options offered by the School under the Redress process, e.g. compensation or apology, and advice on pathways to engage with such offerings if relevant.

The Redress Office programs are managed by psychologists with experience managing and treating people who have experienced sexual abuse. This means YES Psychology can liaise with treating practitioners at a professional level, minimising the amount of information that needs to be shared (it is a priority of YES Psychology that survivors are not required to divulge details of their experience).

Of course, the Redress does not provide information to the School regarding Redress cases and the School does not have access to YES Psychology files in any way. YES Psychology does not share ANY information with the School other than passing through Practitioner invoices with approval for payment.
